SHOT Show

Live From the 2014 SHOT Show Part 1

Live the Legend |

The 2104 SHOT Show is under way and ripping up the Strip in Las Vegas. Winchester is there front and center. The National Shooting Sports Foundation showcases one of the largest trade shows to hit Las Vegas in any given year…and the largest trade show of the hunting and shooting industry. SHOT, standing for Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show, attracts buyers, retailers, dealers, media types and practically all of the significant outdoor brands, and packs them into the Sands Convention Center every January. It’s the bell cow of shows for your outdoor industry, and one that Winchester has been part of since its inception.

The first day of the actual show is always preceded by Media Day. This is a very special occasion where the outdoor press is treated to a sneak-peak of what everyone else will see at SHOT, and where the media gets to shoot the latest and greatest that manufacturers will offer in the season-to-come. It is a teaser of sorts that writers get to partake in that serves as an appetizer for them of what is new for 2014. In turn, media will share what they find to be exciting with you through magazines, television and online platforms.

Five-time Olympic Medalist Kim Rhode was on stage and spending time at the shotgun pavilion with the new Winchester TrAAcker load. The unique dove-tail petals allow the wad to stay centered in the pattern all the way to the target. Available in bright orange for low light and in black for bright light conditions, the wad actually ‘tracks’ your shot to let you know if you are behind, ahead, or centered on the target. Team Winchester member Rob Pincus demonstrated Winchester’s new W Train & Defend ammunition. It is actually a system that is designed to provide threat-stopping power with less recoil to the shooter. The system pairs its range-ready Train rounds with technology-driven Defend rounds. It is an ideal solution for new shooters, as it helps train an operator to become proficient with their personal defense ammunition. Last but not least – a bevy of Winchester product managers were on hand to share new product technologies with America’s outdoor writing corps. A great day indeed – all Winchester style.

The first two days on the show floor at the Sands Convention Center had the Big Red W front and center on the main aisle. Many of Winchester’s TV series hosts stopped by to share stories of last year’s hunts along with many ideas for new products. One of the highlights of day had the Drury brothers stopping by to talk a little turkey – Long Beard XR in particular. The brothers were part of the initial media crew that stopped by NILO Farms at Winchester headquarters to test out this new state-of-the-industry load. It’s really one of the most innovative turkey loads you will ever see. It delivers increased lethality at longer ranges, more than any other turkey load on the market.

You can check out Long Beard XR’s Shot-Lok (insert TM symbol) technology and keep tabs on the SHOT Show 2014 comings and goings online at Winchester.com. The American Legend is alive and well with many great offerings in store for you in 2014 and beyond.
